December 6: Covey has his first AKC titled offspring! Brant finished his AKC Junior Hunter at 2 years, 3 days of age. So he is now Star Crowned Brant JH, CGC!

-----

November 22-23: Attended the three IABCA shows in Anaheim with Covey.  He received three V-1 ratings and therefore earned his UCI International Champion title (UCI Int. CH.). An added bonus is he won Best of Breed and then took a Group II at Show 2 under judge Patti Long Smith!!

Covey's son, Nalo, also attended these three shows and received one SG-2 rating and two SG-1 ratings in the Jungsten (6-9 month old) class. This wasn't enough to earn his title, but he did very well!

November 8-9: Attended and helped out at the GRCGLA AKC Hunt Test. Briton and Wenna were entered in Junior even though we hadn't been training much. That proved to be a dumb decision since they both flunked! ;)

November 3: This was probably the hardest day of my life. I lost my Mellie today.

November 2: Mac attended the Antelope Valley Kennel Club show. He was the only 6-9 month old Puppy Dog so received first place.

-----

October 25: ShadeMan, Kiss, Mac, Strummer, and Nalo attended the Angeles Canyon Dog Club show today. ShadeMan was first in the Bred By Exhibitor Dog entry (1 entry total!); Kiss was third out of three in the 12-18 month Bitches class (her cousin, Rosie, was second); Mac, Strummer, and Nalo took second, third, and fourth, respectively, in the 6-9 month old Puppy Dogs class.

October 24: Today, Cartman and Kiss had their hips and elbows x-rayed for a preliminary evaluation by the Orthopedic Foundation For Animals (OFA). Kiss received a preliminary evaluation of "Excellent" for her hips and "Normal" for her elbows. Cartman received a preliminary evaluation of "Good" for his hips and "Normal" for his elbows. Yippee!!

October 23: Covey's fifth litter was born today - 5 girls, 2 boys!

October 12: Cartman, Kiss, Mac, Strummer, and Ozzy attended an AKC B/OB Match in Lancaster put on by the Antelope Valley Kennel Club. Mac and Strummer, at the young age of 6 months, both earned their AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC). The instructor was very impressed that these two young boys were so very accomplished!

The Star Crowned Gang were the only Goldens to enter conformation at the match, so it was a clean sweep! ;) Here are the results:

Best of Breed: Star Crowned Respect My Authority CGC
Best of Opposite Sex: Star Crowned Kiss Me Deadly
1st, 6-9 month Puppy Dogs: UCI Nat'l. BA CH. Euraidd RobRoy MacGregor CGC

2nd, 6-9 month Puppy Dogs: UCI Nat'l. BA CH. Star Crowned The Minstrel Boy CGC

Ozzy is still looking for his forever home and went to socialize and support his family! He had a great time and saw some new sights!

October 5: Cartman and Kiss, along with the rest of the Tyler/Wenna Litter, celebrated their 1st Birthday today!

-----

September 25: Strummer attended his first obedience class tonight and thought it was pretty cool!

September 21: Mac, UCI Nat'l. BA CH. Euraidd RobRoy MacGregor, turned 6 months old today and participated in his first AKC conformation show - Santa Ana Valley Kennel Club. He showed great and picked up his first AKC blue ribbon. Of course, all the other pups heard he was coming and knew there was no reason to enter! ;)

At the same show, Can./FCI Int./Mex. CH. Star Crowned Whiter Shade Of Pale CGC, TDI, ThD (Am. ptd.), won the Open Dog class and then went Reserve Winners Dog.

September 16: Mac attended his first obedience class tonight and was the star of the class. The instructor used Mac as "demo dog" for the exercises she was teaching the class. He was very quick to learn and it looks like he has a great career ahead of him!

September 6: Covey, Can. CH. Star Crowned Covington Cross JH, WC, CGC (Am. ptd.), is very proud of his handsome son, Star Crowned Brant CGC (2 JH legs) who was bred by and is owned and loved by Dawn & Jim Nelson. Brant participated in his first conformation show today. He was shown in the American Bred Class at the Conejo Kennel Club and took home his first blue ribbon. Okay, maybe there wasn't much competition, but he looked great anyway! ;)

August 23-24: Grandma Tara took her grandson Strummer and Strummer's best buddy Mac to three UCI shows over these two days. The shows are put on by the International All-Breed Canine Association (IABCA) and allow dogs in the USA to obtain International titles. Grandma Tara earned three V-1 ratings (the highest possible), so this qualified her for the UCI International Super Veteran Champion title!! Not bad for an 11 1/2 year old!! She is now officially known as UCI Int. SV CH., UCD, SR Meadowpond Star Crowned Tara CDX, JH, WCX, VC, CGC (Am. ptd.)! Whew!!

At 5 months of age, Mac was in the regular Baby Class (for 3-6 mos. old puppies) and Strummer was in the Bred By Exhibitor Baby Class. Both Mac and Strummer earned three SG-1 ratings (the highest possible rating for puppies) which earned them their UCI National Baby Champion title!!! Strummer also picked up two Best Bred By Exhibitor Baby Golden Retriever wins! Mac is now known as UCI Nat'l. BA CH. Euraidd RobRoy MacGregor and Strummer is UCI Nat'l. BA CH. Star Crowned The Minstrel Boy!!

August 21: Great News!!! Just heard from Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue that one of the two senior Goldens pulled out of the Ridgecrest Shelter at the end of May was adopted!! YAY!!! Here's a picture of lucky Gwendolyn:

Always consider a Rescue Golden before a new puppy, especially "Old Gold". There's nothing better!

August 13: Tonight was Kissie's turn to graduate from Basic Obedience Class. She thought the treats were pretty cool also!

August 12: Cartman graduated from his Basic Obedience Class. He greatly enjoyed the bag of doggie snacks the instructor handed out to each pupil!

August 9: Demelza, Covey, Barbarella, Cartman, Mac, and Strummer went field training at Prado. Cartman and Strummer got to retrieve birds for their first time and did quite well!

August 3: Demelza, Covey, Barbarella, Cartman, Mac, and Strummer went field training at Prado. A good-sized training group showed up, so we got in some worthwhile training. The pups had fun with a group water retrieve session at the end!

August 2: Attended the West LA Obedience Trial Club's annual match with Briton, Covey, Barbarella, and Cartman. Cartman obtained his Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and is now known as Star Crowned Respect My Authority CGC!! Covey & Barbarella did very well in the Novice class and Briton did well in the Open class.

-----

July 27: Tara attended the West LA Obedience Club's United Kennel Club (UKC) Obedience Trial. She earned her third UKC Novice leg which gives her the UCD (UKC Companion Dog) title!! Not bad for an 11 year old grandma dog! She is now UCD, SR Meadowpond Star Crowned Tara CDX, JH, WCX, VC, CGC (Am. ptd.)!

July 26: Briton, Covey, Barbarella, Cartman, Mac, and Strummer went field training at Prado. Mac and Strummer had a great time swimming for the first time!

July 19: Covey, Wenna, Cartman, Kiss, Mac, and Strummer attended the Mojave Desert Golden Retriever Club's fun match in Tehachapi. Covey was in Novice obedience and we figured out what we need to work on! ;) Unfortunately, Wenna missed her Open obedience class while the Goldens were in the conformation ring. Strummer was 1st and Mac 2nd in the 3-6 month old Puppy Dogs class. Mac wasn't happy being shown by Kalie and didn't behave very well for her. Strummer showed awesome for me! Cartman and Kiss showed well in their classes and Kiss went on to BOS (ok, she was the only girl)!

July 3: Euraidd RobRoy MacGregor is here!!! I am so grateful to Louise Patterson & Jan Dixon of Euraidd Golden Retrievers in Australia for sending me this spectacular young boy! Mac is everything I wanted and more! It's going to be a lot of fun with him!

-----

June 29: Euraidd RobRoy MacGregor, an Australia lad who will be joining us next week, won his class and then went Best Baby Puppy in Group and Best Baby Puppy in Show at the Blaxland Glenbrook All-Breed Championship Show in Sydney, Australia, under judge Mr. S. Rose!!! What a way to start his career! We are anxiously awaiting his arrival!

June 24: Logan, Can. CH., SR Beaumaris Star Crowned Logan CD, JH, WCX, CGC, turned 15 years old today! What a guy! He is truly my Logan Love!

June 21: Tara, at 11 years of age, participated in the UKC Obedience Trial held in Victorville, CA. We were hoping she would finish her UCD title (she has 2 legs, needs 3), but she decided to "go deaf" on her recall! Oh, well, now she gets to try again in July!

-----

May 31: Two older Goldens were bailed out of the Ridgecrest Animal Shelter and started on their way to Homeward Bound Goldens in Sacramento, CA, where they will hopefully eventually find new homes. When looking for a pet Golden, please consider your local Rescue group. Information can be found at http://www.grca-nrc.org/Localrescues.htm.

May 28: Sad (non-Golden) news. Barney, my sweet old cat, had to be put to sleep. He was a stray, but had lived with me for 14 years. Figured he was well over 20 years old when he died.

May 10: Tara, Briton, Cartman, and Kiss attended the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Specialty in San Juan Capistrano, CA. Tara participated in the Veteran Bitches (10-12 years old) and the Sweepstakes Veteran Bitches (10-12 years old) classes placing 2nd out of 2 entries in both classes. She was also entered in Veterans Obedience, but missed the class due to a conflict with the conformation ring. Briton also missed her obedience class for the same reason. Cartman and Kiss participated in the 6-9 month old puppy classes - both Regular and Sweepstakes. No placements for them, but they showed well and got some good experience. ShadeMan and Truly also attended the show. This was Truly's first show since the puppy classes and she got some good experience. ShadeMan, Can./Int./Mex. CH. Star Crowned Whiter Shade Of Pale CGC, TDI, ThD (Am. ptd.), was the star of the day for Star Crowned Goldens. He placed 3rd in the Open Dog class and was handled by his breeder/co-owner!

-----

April 27: Cartman and Kiss attended their very first AKC conformation show. They were both in the 6-9 month old puppy classes. They handled all the new sights were very well. Cartman decided he loved sitting in Grandma June's lap! No first place ribbons, but not surprising since they are rather geeky pups! ;) They both showed well and seemed to have a good time and that's the main reason for their attending.

April 19: Briton, Demelza, Covington, Morwenna, Alphie, Cartman, and Kiss all went field training at Prado Dog Training Area, Chino, CA. Dijon stayed home with her babies and Barbarella was still recovering from surgery.

-----

March 25: A sad and happy day. Dijon whelped her litter sired by Covington. There were 14 pups, but 4 were born dead. The 10 survivors are doing well. Unfortunately, Donovan, Raykist Star Crowned Donovan JH, WC, also passed away in the morning at 11 years of age. He finally succumbed to the hemangiosarcoma which was detected originally in December 2002 when he had his spleen removed.

March 15: Covington participated in the Novice B obedience class at the Coso Dog Fanciers of California show in Ridgecrest, CA. Unfortunately, he demonstrated we need to practice more and didn't pass!

-----

February 25: Barbarella developed a mild case of pyometra (uterine infection). Since she is 7 years old, it was decided it was better to spay her at this time then to attempt to cure the infection for another breeding at a later date.

February 22: Briton, Demelza, Covington, Morwenna, Alphie, Cartman, and Kiss all went field training at Prado Dog Training Area, Chino, CA. Dijon and Barbarella are hopefully pregnant, so they stayed home!

February 15: Briton, Demelza, Covington, Cartman, and Kiss all went field training at Prado Dog Training Area, Chino, CA. Dijon and Barbarella are hopefully pregnant, so they stayed home! Morwenna, and Alphie were still in heat, so they also had to stay home.

February 3: Barbarella was bred to Guv using frozen semen imported from the United Kingdom. Puppies due April 2003!

February 1: Briton, Demelza, Covington, Cartman, and Kiss all went field training at Prado Dog Training Area, Chino, CA. Dijon, Barbarella, Morwenna, and Alphie were in heat, so they all had to stay home!

-----

January 26: Briton, Barbarella, Demelza, Covington, Morwenna, Cartman, and Kiss all went field training at Prado Dog Training Area, Chino, CA. Dijon and Alphie were in heat, so they both stayed home!

January 23: Dijon was bred to Covington. Puppies due March 2003!

January 18: Briton, Barbarella, Demelza, Covington, Morwenna, Alphie, Cartman, and Kiss all went field training at Prado Dog Training Area, Chino, CA. Dijon was in heat, so she had to stay home!

January 5: Briton, Barbarella, Demelza, Covington, Morwenna, Dijon, Alphie, Cartman, and Kiss all went field training at Prado Dog Training Area, Chino, CA.

January 1: Attended a "Fun Match" to practice obedience with Barbarella and Briton. Dijon and Alphie came along to get some exposure to being at a show.
